REF: MDC PULL OUT FROM THE GLOBAL POLITICAL AGREEMENT

I write to notify you that the Movement for Democratic Change has pulled out of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) because of the following reasons:

1. The negotiated political settlement never had the blessing of the MDC and none of the party organs know anything about the political settlement.

2. MDC party members believe that the GPA is a sellout arrangement that you created to perpetuate Mugabe’s dictatorship against the wishes of Zimbabweans.

3. The GPA has taken the struggle of the people of Zimbabwe hundred years backwards.

4. The party has resolved not to follow any purported authority and please be advised that we are no longer bound by the GPA.

5. Arthur Mutambara is no longer the MDC President as two thirds of the party structures have passed a vote of no confidence against him, Professor Welshman Ncube and Priscilla Misihairambwi-Mushonga.

6. MDC members do not believe in Article Six of the GPA which give the Parliamentary Select Committee the sole prerogative of leading the authoring of a new Constitution. The people prefer an Independent Commission to lead the authoring of democratic and people-driven Constitution.

7. Zimbabweans are interested in total change which will usher in a new era of democracy and good governance and in the GPA they see a total reversal of what they have been fighting for, for a very long time.

8. There is still continued abuse of human rights, lack of media freedom, lack of rule of law and Zimbabweans still live in fear of their government.

9. The economy is still in a limbo and property rights are not respected by the current regime in power.

10. Mugabe is still the master of everything and daily he is accumulating titles unto himself demonstrating lack of meaningful reform in Zimbabwe.

In view of this, be advised that the MDC is no longer bound by any resolutions of the GPA and the party is going to contest in all by- elections. It is my view that you will consider our position as we fight for the True Independence of Zimbabwe from the jaws of dictatorship.

Yours sincerely

Mr. Job Sikhala-+263 912 914 397

MDC President
