Monomotapa suffered the heaviest defeat recorded in the group stages of the African Champions League when they lost 0-5 to DRC champions TP Mazembe.
The shock defeat will mean Monoz face a mountain in their bid to reach the semi-finals of the elite African club championship. It also meant TP Mazembe maintained their grip on the leadership of their group.
The last time such a netball score line was seen was in 2004 when Nigeria’s Enyimba beat Malawi’s Bakili Bullets 6-1. The other heavy defeat came in the same year, when Cameroon’s Jeanne Arc beat Senegal’s USM 5-0 in the same tournament.
Monomotapa failed to repeat their opening match heroics in beating Tunisian giants Etoile Du Sahel. Instead they gave a lifeless performance particularly in the second half when they crumbled like a deck of cards.
Alain Kaluyituka Dioko for TP Mazembe scored a hat-trick in the 45th, 68th and 78th minutes. The other goals came from captain Tresor Mputu in the 58th minute and Kabangu Mulota in the 66th minute.
