Gweru Mayor Mufunde dies

Gweru – The Mayor of Gweru, Councillor Farai Mufunde has died.  He was 60 years old.

Clr Mafunde, died at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare on Monday, where he was receiving treatment.

He was born on 10 June 1949 and was elected mayor for Gweru last year when he won the March council elections for Ridgemond area.

The death is a serious blow to the people of Gweru as it follows the death of the Gweru-Chirumanzu Senator Patrick Kombayi on Saturday.

Clr Mafunde is survived by his wife, Rosemary, four children and four grandchildren.

He is expected to be buried at Mtapa Cemetry in Mtapa, Gweru.

Mourners are gathered at No. 120 Umsungwe Avenue, Ridgemond, Gweru.

VICTORIA FALLS – Two MDC-T officials were on Wednesday arrested for celebrating the party’s by-election victory in Ward 9 by driving through the area in a small convoy of cars. MDC-T Ward 11 councillor Edmore Zhou and chairman Bernard Nyamambi were arrested for alleged ‘public nuisance.’
