Mangoma (54) is accused of snatching Renewal Team activist Believe Tevera’s youthful wife Yemurai Maravanyika.

His bodyguards – Nelson Mukwenhi (34), Rekai Toto (29), Whatmore Mushonga (28), Onias Kwenda (33), Thabani Mlambo (37) and Pardon Maingehama (32) – appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Sharon Rakafa on Friday.

They are facing assault charges and will come back to court on Tuesday next week for trial. Mukwenha, Toto and Maingehama are facing another separate charge of assaulting Tevera.

The complainant is MDC Renewal member Pride Mukono of No. 5426 73 Crescent Glen View 3, Harare.

Prosecutor Mr Desire Chidanire told the court that the six are Mangoma’s bodyguards. It is alleged that on May 26 this year, Mukono went to the Renewal Team headquarters at No. 26 Midlothian Road, Eastlea, with his friend, Believe Tevera.

It is alleged that the pair wanted to submit a letter to Last Maingehama pertaining to Mangoma’s alleged affair with Tevera’s wife.

After submitting the letter, Mokono and Tevera saw a white truck with 15 people following them. Mukono ran towards Odzi Flats and two of Mangoma’s bodyguards ran after him. He changed route and started running towards a bus stop hoping to get help from the police, but the truck caught up with him and blocked his way, it is alleged.

The six disembarked and started assaulting him, kicking and punching him all over the body. He sustained some injuries. The Herald
