Zanu PF’s 86 year old dictator Robert Mugabe and members of his family travelled to Malawi on Wednesday to take part in a traditional ceremony ‘kurovagata’ following the death of his sister Sabina Mugabe.
Although the state media reported that Mugabe had gone to Malawi for closed door talks with President Bingu wa Mutharika and returned in the evening, it was the presence of Sabina’s children including Leo Mugabe that gave the game away.
Mugabe was born near Kutama Mission in the Zvimba District north east of Salisbury in Southern Rhodesia to a Malawian father Gabriel Matibili and a Shona mother Bona, but in private he has kept touch with his father’s relatives in Malawi. His father, Gabriel Matibiri, a carpenter, abandoned the Mugabe family in 1934, in search of work in Bulawayo.
