The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in Zimbabwe has on Saturday denied reports that its leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, was admitted into a South African hospital.

The Zimbabwe’s main opposition party spokesman Sibanengi Dube said in a statement that the rumour which started circulating on Friday night has led to a “flood of media queries”.

He said Tsvangirai was merely on a private business trip in Cape Town.

“The President is so robust that he can easily complete the Comrades Marathon,” Dube said. - Sapa

Tsvangirai was arrested in the wake of a Highfield rally called by the Save Zimbabwe Campaign on March 11, 2007. Photos of the battered opposition leader following his release a few days later stirred international outrage.
