Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEP) holders have been awarded another six months stay in South Africa to allow them them to apply for one or more other visas and waivers provided for in the Immigration Act.
Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders have about six months before their documentation to live and work in South Africa expires, and about 180 000 Zimbabwean nationals living in South Africa will be affected.
Following a declaration by Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to punish holders of the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEP) who are reluctant to apply for visas and/or waivers, the Zimbabwean government has urged its citizens to comply with South African laws.
South Africa has effectively banned foreign pastors, prophets and other religious leaders from ever getting any work or residence permits to stay in the country according to Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi. “We are saying they must come only as visitors, but as visitors who can perform work. This change means there’s no avenue available for these religious workers to migrate to permanent residence status,” he added.
South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has declared war on Zimbabwean nationals who are reluctant to apply for visas and/or waivers following the extension of the validity of Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEP) to 30 June next year. Motsoaledi told the SA Parliament on Tuesday that the (ZEP) holders who do not apply to be in his country legally would be “punished”.
