William Masvinu, 43, who landed his third Mr Ugly contest crown in December before being dethroned for allegedly manhandling the pageant’s sponsor, has filed a police report in a bid to get the prize money he is still owed.
It is probably only in Zimbabwe where being very ugly gets you banned from a pageant that seeks to find the most hideous looking man in the land.
William Masvinu, 43, who landed his third Mr Ugly contest crown last Sunday, has been dethroned after allegedly manhandling the sponsor of the competition for delaying to give him his $500 first prize.
Mr Ugly director David “Apama Styles” Machowa’s has revealed plans to stop repeat-winner William Masvinu from contesting in future pageants.
Five times Mr Ugly winner William Masvinu took the title he lost last year to Maison Sere in controversial circumstances during this year’s edition of the competition held over the weekend in Ruwa. The “ugliest” man in the land walked away with $500 plus a cow for his exploits.
The pageant that celebrates the other side of “beauty”, Mr Ugly, has returned after a break, organisers have said. According to event organiser, David Machowa aka Apama, the pageant is set to take place on November 25 at a venue to be announced soon.
There has been an outcry by fans over the criteria used by judges to select Mr Ugly 2015 in a contest that was held over the weekend at City Sports Bar.

HARARE – Business came to a standstill in the city centre in Harare on Friday when reigning “Mr Ugly” William Masvinu and his wife Alice Chabhanga were paraded in the streets in a mock wedding.
