Defying the odds: Winky D nominated for African Muzik Magazine Awards

Despite being suppressed for being the voice of the voiceless in his own country by the Zanu-PF regime, Zimbabwe Dancehall singer Winky D, real name Wallace Chirumiko, continues to shine at the international level with the latest achievement being his nomination for the 10th edition of the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) set for the 17th of September next month in the United States of America.

Against all odds: Winky D wins Best African/Dancehall Entertainer Award

Despite his music being banned on national radios and television, snubbed from local awards and shows violently disrupted by riot police, Zim Dancehall musician Winky D continues to be recognised abroad with the 40th International Reggae and World Music Awards crowing him Best African Dancehall Entertainer for the second time in a row.

Zimdancehall superstar Winky D, real name Wallace Chirumiko, was pelted by bottles by suspected Zanu PF hooligans before he could perform his controversial hit song, “Kasong KeJecha” in Kwekwe. 

How he became dancehall king

Not to be messed with, Winky D became the worst nightmare for any artiste who tried to challenge him behind the mic. Some careers were even buried and have not resurrected to date.
