RUSAPE – A 20-year-old man, Tatenda Mudziwedare, from Headlands, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the attempted ritual murder of a seven-year-old schoolboy. Mudziwedare was “instructed by a businessman at Sherenje Business Centre to bring him a human head,” according to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The High Court on Wednesday sentenced Tafadzwa Shamba and Tapiwa Makore (senior) to death for gruesomely murdering seven-old Tapiwa Makore (junior) in 2020 in a case which stirred up deep emotions in the country.
Tapiwa Makore Senior and Tafadzwa Shamba have been convicted by High Court judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi over the gruesome ritual murder of Tapiwa Makore Jnr. The duo will be sentenced on the 12th of July. The murder in September 2020 sent shockwaves across the country with revelations that his body was chopped into pieces and his torso was found the following day being mauled by dogs.
The two tents sandwiching the entrance to the Makore homestead in Nyamutumbu Village, Murehwa, are now worn out, communicating a permanence uncharacteristic of such shelter.
Thanks Makore, on remand on charges of allegedly murdering his seven-year old nephew Tapiwa for suspected ritual purposes, had his kitchen hut at his Murehwa homestead destroyed by fire on Friday night, a few hours after being granted $10 000 bail by the High Court on the grounds that there was no evidence linking him to the killing.
The family of the late Tapiwa Makore Junior was at the High Court demanding justice for the young boy who was allegedly killed by his uncle in a suspected ritual murder in September.
The search for slain Tapiwa Makore’s missing body parts yielded nothing on Thursday with the suspect and uncle, Thanks Makore reported to have suggested that the head was buried in a field.
