South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday partly blamed acts of sabotage for recent power cuts that are the worst that the country has ever suffered.
The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has said load shedding hours have gone back to normal following extended power cuts last week.
Zimbabwe’s state-owned power utility on Thursday warned it may ration electricity supplies as low water levels reduce output from its biggest hydro plant, while ageing coal-fired generators are shuttered or running at reduced capacity.
Power cuts that are being experienced countrywide have raised the ire of consumers as many areas are going for hours without power almost on a daily basis.
Zimbabwe’s power imports for the first quarter of 2017 went up by about 10 percent as local production slumped 23 percent, a development that local energy experts anticipate to result in load shedding if not properly managed.
