HARARE – Police in Shamva on Saturday evening ran amok, brutally assaulted a man to death and left several critically injured after a senior police officer reportedly commandeered nine juniors to revenge on hapless mine workers after his wife lost a purse with $1.
HARARE- An MDC-T official, who in November 2010 hit the headlines over a sex scandal involving a junior party worker, has now been arrested on allegations of plotting to assassinate Smart Mesa, a member of the party’s security department.
Two members of the MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai have been murdered in less than a week, amid fears that serious violence along political lines is once again on the rise. Last Tuesday an MDC-T activist in Masvingo was brutally murdered, allegedly by ZANU PF supporters at his Zaka East home.
CHITUNGWIZA town clerk Godfrey Tanyanyiwa, a known Zanu PF supporter, was on Thursday evening arrested on allegations of fraud and criminal abuse of office. The arrest follows the resignation of two other senior officials.
A GOKWE police constable was on Monday sentenced to 320 hours of community service for stealing US$3 000 from a corpse at an accident scene. Constable Slindeni Mathew pleaded guilty to the offence while his co-accused Constable Bryon Kahove, who appeared in court separately, denied the charge.
HARARE- The family of the late retired army commander, General Solomon Mujuru, is not convinced that the charred remains found at his gutted Beatrice farmhouse were those of the decorated liberation war hero since the police had not positively identified the remains at the time a public announcement was made.

VICTORIA FALLS- Police in the resort town of Victoria Falls on Friday arrested a bookshop owner, Sinekiwe Matore for selling Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s book, At the Deep End, in her shop.
CHIVHU- A vehicle carrying 714kg of Mbanje with a street value of US$140 000 overturned near Chivhu along the Harare-Masvingo highway early Wednesday morning, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
