The ruling Zanu PF party on Wednesday announced results from another 75 constituencies with those for the remaining 20 expected later in the day. The results brought to 180 the constituencies that have so far been announced after those from 115 others had been released since Sunday.
The planned clearance of the backlog will bring relief to motorists, some of whom were going for months without proper metal number plates and having to rely on the temporary cardboard issues. It will also help to reduce the number of people going about committing crimes using unregistered vehicles.
Plans are also afoot to upgrade existing tollgates on major highways to ensure they can cope rapidly and easily with the growing volumes of traffic and do not become a choke point.
