HARARE – The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) led by Morgan Tsvangirai has overturned a decision by the party’s Mashonaland East leadership to suspend former Marondera Central Member of Parliament, Ian Kay for five years.
The MDC-T’s acrimonious power struggle, which has seen party leader Morgan Tsvangirai battling a revolt engineered by senior party officials seeking leadership renewal after the party’s dismal July 31 elections loss, has spilled over into the donor community putting the party in a precarious position as it seeks to regroup to challenge Zanu PF.
HARARE – Ian Kay, former Marondera MDC MP, faces a long winter in political wilderness after the MDC imposed a five-year ban on him for suggesting that Morgan Tsvangirai should resign.
A report by the Zimbabwe Independent newspaper claims party officials are holding clandestine meetings to plot Tsvangirai’s ouster through an early congress to be held in March 2014 instead of 2016 when it is due.
