HARARE – A survey report conducted by the Zimbabwe Democracy Institute (ZDI) has concluded that opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai still retains 81 percent of the support from MDC members even after the party split last year.
The MDC-T’s viability as a strong opposition party has been called into question after its crushing election defeat on July 31. Many Zimbabweans are waking up from the dream that change will come through the MDC-T.
The two MDC factions are engaged in informal reunification talks following their 2005 acrimonious split, David Coltart, the legal secretary of group led by Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara has said. A fortnight ago, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai who leads the other faction said he was not opposed to calls for the two factions to reunite ahead of elections expected next year.
