This is the full text of the Supreme Court Judgment No 43-15 which found that employers have a common law right to dismiss employees on notice.
HARARE – Opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) MP for Kuwadzana, Nelson Chamisa, is under fire from labour activists for his role in the Supreme Court judgment delivered last Friday which now allows companies to terminate workers’ contracts upon giving three months notice.
The recent ruling by the Supreme Court that worker’s contracts can be terminated by a simple notice is a great drawback to the already suffering workers in Zimbabwe.
WORKERS are now at the mercy of employers after the Supreme Court ruled yesterday that companies can lawfully terminate their contracts at any time without offering them packages, provided they are given at least three months notice.
