HARARE – Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe (ANZ) Group Editor, Stanley Gama, has been cleared of criminal defamation charges after a Harare magistrate today said that the law under which he was being charged had been declared illegal by the constitutional court.
The MDC condemns the arrest of Daily News Editor, Stanley Gama and the senior writer, Fungi Kwaramba on Monday at the instigation of controversial businessman, Kamal Khalfan, over stories linking the Omani citizen to underhand deals in Zimbabwe.
Daily News editor Stanley Gama and his senior reporter Fungi Kwaramba were on Monday charged by the police for allegedly criminally defaming businessman Kamal Khalfan. Both Gama and Kwaramba were summoned to Highlands Police Station where they were made to sign warned and cautioned statements, reports said.
Daily News group editor Stanley Gama and reporter Fungisai Kwaramba were yesterday picked up by the police for questioning in relation to a story published in January about businessman Mr Kamal Khalfan accusing him of shady dealings and being a homosexual.
Controversial businessman, Kamal Khalfan is suing the the independent Daily News for $10 million for stories he said defamed him and paints him in a very bad light.
