The trial of Air Zimbabwe bosses, Grace Pfumbidzayi and Peter Chikumba has been set for the 13th of August this year. The two are facing charges of defrauding the airline of millions of dollars.
The new Air Zimbabwe board led by Mr Valentine Sinemane is pushing for the arrest and specification of five senior managers implicated in the aviation insurance scam in an attempt to trace and recover $10 million the national airline was defrauded.
HARARE – The three Air Zimbabwe bosses who were last week arrested on fraud allegations were denied bail after a magistrate ruled that they were a flight risk.
HARARE – Former Air Zimbabwe (Private) Limited manager and company secretary Grace Nyaradzai Pfumbidzai, facing fraud charges, yesterday claimed that some board members had “falsely raised charges against her to protect their business interests.”
Suspended Air Zimbabwe (Private) Limited chief executive Innocent Mavhunga (53) and his predecessor Peter Chikumba have been arrested on fraud allegations.
Air Zimbabwe Private Limited company secretary Grace Nyaradzo Pfumbidzayi has been arrested on six counts of fraud and one of criminal abuse of duty as a public officer for allegedly swindling the airline of more than €5 895 695 and US$1 298 827.
Police received a criminal report on the $10 million Air Zimbabwe insurance fraud involving top management and a copy of an audit report in December last year but did nothing, it was revealed yesterday.
HARARE – A disciplinary tribunal last Friday found Air Zimbabwe (Private) Limited company secretary Grace Pfumbidzayi guilty of defrauding the airline of $5 175 593 and US$1 204 670 in an aviation insurance scam.
Revelations that around US$10 million was looted from Air Zimbabwe by senior management there and Navistar Insurance Brokers have opened the lid on the poor state of public administration and opacity in State-linked enterprises.
