Six years since the 2008 political violence during which many opposition members were killed and maimed experts say there is still deep seated fear at community level and there is a need for urgent action to solve the problem.
Five years ago communities lost lives due to Politically Motivated Violence. This week the Heal Zimbabwe Trust (HZT) pays homage to the lives of the following heroes and heroines who died in 2008 as a result of politically motivated violence.
The following is an update on the political environment in Zimbabwe for the week ending 12 May 2013. The reports have been compiled by the Heal Zimbabwe Trust.
Heal Zimbabwe castigates the unwarranted arrest of its Chairperson who is also Director for the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (Zimrights), Mr Okay Machisa, under false charges of conspiracy to commit fraud, forgery and publishing falsehoods.
Muzarabani, a scenic district situated in the Mashonaland Central province near the Mozambique border is still reeling from the affects of politically motivated violence and intimidation witnessed in the area post March 2008. On the 4th of May 2008, Chief Kasekete of Muzarabani called for the murder of villagers subscribing to non- ZANU PF ideologies. By the 6th of May, 8 villagers were dead allegedly as a result of the decree.
