Just as the notorious Masendeke family, the country has seen another family of suspected serial armed robbers involving four siblings from the Mupamhanga family believed to be the mastermind of several robberies around the country, including the famous Mashwede Holdings robbery in Harare.
LATE notorious armed robber Edmund Edgar Masendeke’s two siblings have been arrested by the police crack team targeting machete gang leaders after they allegedly assaulted and robbed a motorist of US$300 in Kwekwe last week.
The name “Masendeke” is the stuff of legend in Zimbabwe. Synonymous with such heinous crimes as rape, murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and jail breaking, the name is one that many know.
It was in 1995 that the country was forced to take notice of the now infamous name. This was after Edmund Edgar – the most notorious of the infamous Masendeke brothers – had killed a woman in Masvingo and stole her car.
KWEKWE – Zimbabweans must brace for another Masendeke episode after three siblings from the family were last week accused of murdering a reveller at a Kwekwe night club on Good Friday. The name Masendeke once brought shivers down the spines of many.
