Former Econet Media’s partner Dr Dish’s fears that the mobile company could conceal or destroy accounting statements it needed to confirm any payments due to it warranted the intervention of the court, the High Court has ruled.
Econet Group’s pay television service, Kwese Television (Private) Limited, popularly known as Kwese TV, has petitioned the High Court seeking an order to compel its business partner Dr Dish (Private) Limited (Dr Dish) to settle a $634 400 loan which was advanced to the firm for the payment of licence fees in Zimbabwe.
Kwese parent company, Econet Media (Mauritius), say it has nothing to do with the Supreme Court ruling against Dr Dish over the distribution of its content through Kwese TV to Zimbabwe viewers because they terminated all their agreements.
Econet Media (Mauritius) cannot distribute Kwesé TV satellite content to Zimbabwean viewers because it failed to comply with the terms and conditions under which it was granted the licence, the Supreme Court has ruled.
Dr Dish (Pvt) Limited, which recently partnered Econet Media Limited (Mauritius) to distribute Kwese TV satellite content to the Zimbabwean viewership, has filed an urgent chamber application seeking permission to operate its broadcast business, pending determination of a Supreme Court appeal by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe.
