Ken Sharpe warns public about fake and fraudulent social media accounts
HARARE – WestProp Holdings CEO, Mr. Ken Sharpe, has issued a public warning following the emergence of multiple fraudulent social media accounts impersonating him and soliciting money from unsuspecting individuals.
The fake accounts—some of which have been traced to a man residing in Nketa, Bulawayo, using a NetOne mobile line 0719200225—are actively deceiving followers through WhatsApp, Facebook, and other platforms, posing as Mr. Sharpe and requesting financial contributions under false pretenses.
The company issued a statement warning that lawyers had already begun taking legal action and the perpetrators face serious legal consequences under multiple Zimbabwean laws governing fraud, cyber impersonation, transmission of false data and identity theft among others.
Under the Telecommunications Act in Zimbabwe misuse of mobile services for criminal activity may result in service termination and prosecution.
“WestProp Holdings urges the public to engage only with verified accounts of Mr. Ken Sharpe and WestProp Holdings, report suspicious activity to Meta, WhatsApp, and local authorities.
“Avoid sending money or personal information to any unverified contact claiming to represent Mr. Sharpe. Mr. Sharpe remains committed to transparency, ethical leadership, and safeguarding the trust of his followers and stakeholders.
The company urged members of the public to report suspicious accounts by contacting the WestProp Communications Office.
Sharpe is a prominent Zimbabwean businessman, philanthropist and real estate developer who founded and continues to lead WestProp Holdings, the first real estate company to be listed on the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange.
In 2021 he became the first Zimbabwean to receive the Forbes Africa Best of Africa Most Innovative CEO Award.
Under the slogan “Bringing Dubai to Zimbabwe”, the company is building residential units worth over US$4billion that offer a comprehensive urban lifestyle with a focus on quality, technology, and social amenities, mirroring the ambitions of Dubai’s urban development.
For example, WestProp’s most ambitious development, Pomona City, located in Harare, is designed as a “city within a city,” integrating living, working, shopping, and recreation.
