Police in Chivhu ban the carrying of dangerous weapons ahead of the festive season

CHIKOMBA, Zimbabwe — Police in Chivhu district have banned the carrying of dangerous weapons ahead of the festive season, citing public safety concerns.

Officer Commanding Chivhu District, Chief Superintendent Inviolatah Mangeya, said the prohibition covers weapons including machetes, knobkerries, swords, knives, spears, daggers, catapults and other offensive or traditional weapons.

The order takes effect from Dec. 20, 2025, to March 20, 2026.

Under the directive, anyone who violates the ban faces a fine not exceeding level five, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.

The order is issued in terms of Section 4(2) of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act.

Chivhu policing district covers areas stretching from the Manyame River to Guzha Business Centre in the northeast, southward to the Mupfure River through Muda small-scale commercial farms, and includes boundaries with Marondera, Masvingo East and areas along the Save River.
