Ti Gonzi puts pressure to recover US$6000 lost to Magaya’s arrested bodyguard
HARARE – Rapper Ti Gonzi is adding to Prophet Walter Magaya’s legal battles as he claims he lost US$6000 at the hands of one of the preacher’s bodyguards and that Magaya only gave him back US$30.
Ti Gonzi, born Tinashe Gonzara, wrote a letter to President Mnangagwa asking for help to recover the money which he lost trying to purchase a car from Magaya’s security, identified as Tapiwa Felix Chikondo.
Chikondo is the same bodyguard who appeared in court this week charged with defeating or obstructing the course of justice and, alternatively, assaulting or resisting police officers who were sent to arrest the preacher at his Waterfalls prayer mountain last week.
In the post, the Kure rapper alleges that Chikondo sold him a car with fake number plates and ran away from him.
“I write to you (President Mnangagwa) as a citizen who has run out of options to be able to recover my 6000US I lost in the hands of that man, besides Walter Magaya, in handcuffs.
“He sold me an unregistered car with fake number plates, only to start running away from me just a day after I discovered the problem,” reads part of the letter.
Gonzi says it has been over a year since Chikondo ran away from him and promised to return his money.
He says, “He told me he was gonna return my money and take his car back, and he ran away from me for over a year now. VTS took my car. This is the first time I’m seeing his face, and his name is Tapiwa Chikondo. He is said to be Walter Magaya’s security.”
Efforts to recover his money through Prophet Magaya did not yield much fruit as the Man of God only gave the rapper $30 and a bag full of empty promises.
“I tried to reach out to Walter Magaya for help, but I only got 30US for fuel, and he asked me to come the next day, and he has avoided me since then.
“I bought this car in the Yadah Hotel premises. I have reported my case to the Waterfalls police station and the anti-corruption of Zimbabwe,” says Gonzi.
Despite having all the legal paperwork in place, Ti Gonzi says he has received threats while trying to recover his money.
“Please help, Mr President. I have been threatened, but I have always believed, and I know we have a great president, and Nyika inovakwa nevana vayo. I have my agreements of sale and everything,” says Ti Gonzi.
