HARARE – The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) executive on Wednesday evening announced the dismissal of head coach Michael Nees following a string of poor results after 16 games in charge.
Nees’ sacking was confirmed in a statement issued by the Nqobile Magwizi-led ZIFA executive, which read:
“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) wishes to inform all stakeholders and members of the public that the Executive Committee has resolved to terminate the contract of Mr. Michael Nees with immediate effect.
“The Association takes this opportunity to sincerely thank Mr. Nees for his efforts and contributions to Zimbabwean football during his tenure. His dedication to the game and service to national structures are greatly appreciated.
“ZIFA remains firmly committed to strengthening its technical development programmes and ensuring continued progress in all areas of the game, in line with its reform and restructuring agenda.
“Further information regarding the transition process and interim technical arrangements will be communicated in due course.”
The German tactician managed just two wins from 16 matches, a disappointing record that increasingly frustrated Warriors supporters.
Tensions reached a boiling point last week when Zimbabwe suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat to minnows Lesotho in a World Cup qualifier.
Although the match was a dead rubber, many fans expected the Warriors to claim victory after holding a strong Bafana Bafana side to a goalless draw just days earlier.
The defeat meant Zimbabwe ended their World Cup qualifying campaign without registering a single win.

HHow can a decent nation wait for someone to have 16games wifhout a winner and still retain him and càrry on.unless someone benefited from having Nees around as long as he wanted
