A tribute to the late Joseph Madhimba – A true colossus of broadcasting in Zimbabwe
It is with a deep sense of loss and reverence that I pay tribute to a giant whose voice once echoed through the hearts and homes of a nation — Joseph Madhimba.
His passing is not only the loss of a beloved, but the departure of a national treasure, a voice that defined an era, and a man whose unwavering dedication to the craft of journalism was second to none.
Joseph Madhimba did not merely read the news — he embodied it. His delivery was not only powerful, but purposeful; each bulletin delivered with the precision and gravitas of one who fully understood the weight of his words.
He read the news with such ferocity, it was as though one was hearing the roaring of the flooded Zambezi—a force of nature in itself.
His discipline, consistency and commanding presence behind the microphone often gave the impression he had emerged from the ranks of a refined military institution. Yet, what he carried was not a weapon, but truth, clarity, and an unyielding commitment to integrity.
Those who had the honour of working with him or learning under his guidance speak of a man whose mentorship shaped their careers and whose legacy continues to inspire.
To them, and to us all, Joseph Madhimba was synonymous with news. He was iconic not just for the voice that lingered long after the bulletin had ended, but for the standard of excellence he set for all who followed.
As a nation, we are compelled not just to mourn his passing, but to celebrate his life—a life that deserves to be acknowledged with the highest honour.
I firmly believe Joseph Madhimba is deserving of the status of National Hero or an honorary recognition befitting his immeasurable contribution to Zimbabwean broadcasting.
May his soul rest in eternal peace and may the Holy Spirit comfort the family during this difficult time. Heaven has indeed received one of our finest.
