HARARE – In what seems like a cruel twist of fate, Naison Musaka, a close friend of celebrated karateka and trainer Sensei Mugove “Mugo” Muhambi, reportedly passed on a few hours after his friend’s death after suffering from a stroke.
Muhambi, who proudly represented Zimbabwe at numerous international competitions, passed away on Saturday morning after a car crash along Borrowdale Road in Harare.
His death was met with sadness by several prominent Zimbabweans that he trained, including Fadzai Mahere, Zodwa Mkandla and ExQ.
In a post on social media, politician Temba Mliswa revealed that Musaka had suffered a stroke after hearing about his friend’s death.
“He suffered a stroke after hearing of the death of Mugove Muhambi as they were very close. I tried all I could, facilitating for brain scans and everything but it wasn’t enough.
“The wellness and fitness scene will never be the same without these two gentle giants of the craft!” Mliswa said.
Musaka’s death comes as a blow to the country’s sport and fitness enthusiasts, as it follows hot on the heels of the passing of Sensei Mugo, a man who is regarded as a legend in the field.
Having began his journey in primary school, over the years, Sensei Mugo built a respected reputation both on and off the mat.
In 2016, he was elected Vice President of the Zimbabwe Karate Union, a testament to his leadership and influence in the martial arts community.
The late martial artist also famously appeared as Zola in a local TV drama series.
