Chitembwe sacked: CAPS United fans widely celebrate, say, “finally, he is gone”
HARARE – CAPS United have reportedly parted ways with their head coach and club legend Lloyd Chitembwe following a dismal start to the 2025 Castle Lager PSL campaign.
After seven games, the ex-title winning coach with CAPS in 2016, managed to secure only four points out of a possible 21, leaving the team languishing in the relegation zone on 17th position.
Makepekepe are currently level on points with log table anchors Triangle United, who also dismissed their coach, Luke Masomere, last week due to poor results.
While an official statement from CAPS United is yet to be released, the Daily News reports that Chitembwe has been shown the exit door.
Ironically, the news of his departure arrived as sweet news in the ears of the CAPS United family.
In fact, Chitembwe’s sacking has ignited wide celebrations among a large section of the CAPS United fans.
In many CAPS United’s WhatsApp groups observed by this reporter, fans expressed overwhelming relief and joy with many unanimously saying, “finally, he is gone.”
Chitembwe returned to the Green Machine in 2021 after a stint with Harare City having left the Green Machine in 2019.
Among those celebrating his departure, they argue his second tenure was marred by complacency.
They believe HE was now in a comfort zone, especially following his alleged personal relationship with club president Farai Jere.
