Highlanders CEO Brian Moyo resigns amid fraud and corruption investigation
BULAWAYO – Highlanders Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Brian Moyo on Saturday resigned, just days after being suspended over allegations of fraud and corruption.
Moyo’s suspension came on Thursday following reports that he was at the centre of a controversial player transfer deal, where he allegedly pocketed US$5,000.
According to sources, Moyo who was recently appointed to replace the late Sihlangu Dlodlo, submitted a fraudulent US$23,000 invoice to the club, despite the actual transfer fee due to Bulawayo Chiefs being US$18,000.
The fraudulent deal was uncovered, leading Bosso to suspend Moyo and initiate internal investigations.
However, Moyo tendered his resignation which the club accepted and announced on Saturday amid the disciplinary process.
“Highlanders has received and accepted a resignation letter from CEO Brian Moyo. His resignation comes at a time when the club had already initiated investigations and a disciplinary process following allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds.
“The club assures its stakeholders that due process will be followed to resolve this matter,” the club announced.
Moyo’s departure means Bosso is now in search of its fourth CEO in just over a year.
