Elizabeth Tsvangirai, the widow of Zimbabwe’s late opposition leader and former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, made a heartfelt visit to her mother-in-law on Saturday.

Videos and pictures circulating on social media captured emotional scenes as Elizabeth arrived at Gogo Tsvangirai’s home.

As soon as she stepped out of the car, Elizabeth rushed into Gogo Tsvangirai’s arms, and the two were overcome with emotion, tears streaming down their faces as they shared a heartfelt reunion.

Elizabeth and Gogo Tsvangirai later on shared some lighter moments together.

Gogo Tsvangirai expressed her gratitude to her daughter-in-law for bringing groceries, and in a touching display of concern, she also asked Elizabeth if she had set aside some money for herself after purchasing the groceries.

“Wasara une dollar manje? (have you left a dollar for yourself?),” she asked.

Morgan Tsvangirai was a prominent Zimbabwean politician who played a crucial role in the country’s struggle for democracy.

Born on March 10, 1952, he rose to prominence as a trade union leader and later became the founder and president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), which was the main opposition party in Zimbabwe until its demise a few years ago.

Tsvangirai’s first wife, Susan, died in a head-on collision in March 2009. Tsvangirai became Prime Minister of Zimbabwe in a Government of National Unity (GNU) from 2009 to 2013 after the 2008 disputed presidential election results.

Tsvangirai’s career was marked by his advocacy for workers’ rights and democratic reforms, as well as his criticism of late former President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF government.

Despite facing numerous challenges and setbacks, including arrest and a brutal police attacks, Tsvangirai remained a prominent figure in Zimbabwean politics until his passing on February 14, 2018.

Mugabe, who had been overthrown by a military coup in November 2017 after 37 years in power, died in a Singapore hospital in 2019 from prostate cancer.
