HARARE – The High Court on Friday dismissed an appeal by businessmen Moses Mpofu (49) and Mike Chimombe (43), against their denial of bail by the Magistrates’ Court.

The two men are facing fraud charges related to allegations of forgery and misrepresentation.

The case has been escalated to the Anti-Corruption division of the High Court, with the trial scheduled to take place from October 1 to 4 this year.

Allegations against Mpofu and Chimombe center around the submission of fraudulent documents to secure a government contract.

Specifically, the two are accused of forging a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) Tax clearance certificate and a National Social Security Authority (NSSA) compliance certificate for their company, Blackdeck Private Limited.

These forged documents were included in a bidding submission to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries, and Rural Development, as part of a tender to supply goats for the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.

By misrepresenting that Blackdeck Private Limited was in full compliance with ZIMRA and NSSA regulations, the accused allegedly secured a contract under false pretenses.

The Ministry of Lands acted on these misrepresentations, contracting Blackdeck Private Limited for the project. New Ziana
