FIFA extends ZIFA NC mandate; sacks Ndebele, Malaba from the committee

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has extended the mandate for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee (NC) for six months to January 31, 2025.

The extension comes after the NC’s tenure expired on 30 June 2024 since its appointment on July 11, 2023.

Lincoln Mutasa, Nyasha Sanyamandwe, and Rose Mugadza have been retained by the world football governing body.

The duo of Sikhumbuzo Ndebele and Cynthia Malaba was shown the exit door with plans to replace them reportedly in the pipeline.

This means Mutasa, Sanyamandwe and Mutasa will continue their work as the NC members.

However, instead of running the whole ZIFA affairs as initially assigned upon their appointment, this time their duties have been limited.

They have been instructed to prepare for the next ZIFA elections only.

“FIFA wants Mutasa and his committee to ensure that the ZIFA Congress holds an extraordinary meeting to deliberate on and adopt the constitutional amendments.

“After that, the NC must appoint an electoral committee and outline the elections road map.

“FIFA want the ZIFA elections to have been held by the first quarter of next year, which would mean that the remainder of the year must be used to start the elections for the affiliate bodies,” a source told Zimpapers Sport.

According to multiple reports, FIFA expects Zimbabwe to hold its elections early next year.
