Billiat sees straight red in Yadah’s 1-0 loss to Herentals; leaves match venue

HARARE – A 66th minute red card to Yadah FC’s marquee signing Khama Billiat for allegedly slapping the Herentals goalkeeper, was the major highlight of the derby match between the Miracle Boys and the Students on Saturday.

Played at Rufaro Stadium in Harare, the dramatic encounter ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts Herentals.

Godfrey Mukambi netted the only goal of the match early into the match, helping the Innocent Benza owned side to register their second win of the season.

Yadah started on top of the game with their star midfielder Billiat rising to the occasion before he was sent off.

The Miracle Boys missed some clear cut chances and that probably led to the frustration of Billiat who later on received his marching orders from female referee Thanks Nyaungwe.

With many not aware what really led to the red card, players who commented on condition of anonymity suggested that the former Kaizer Chiefs star slapped the Herentals’ goalie during a scuffle.

“From where we were standing (during the scuffle), we think he slapped and shouted at our goalkeeper,” they revealed.

Asked to comment on Billiat’s red card, Yadah FC head coach Thomas Ruzive refused to air his views.

“I’m not qualified to comment on the match officials (decisions) maybe they know better and what was the reason (for the red card),” he told journalists.

Meanwhile, Billiat left the match venue before full time, further showing his frustration.

He left with his daughter Kimberly who was among the spectators 15 minutes before full time.

The straight red card means Billiat will miss Yadah’s next two games including their upcoming fixture against his former club in the local league CAPS United.
