HARARE – CAPS United legend Alois Bunjira’s son Junior, finally made his debut two months after joining the Green Machine.

Junior made a cameo appearance in United’s 1-1 draw with ZPC Kariba at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

The 20-year-old winger, was subbed on in the 78th minute, replacing speedy forward and one of CAPS United’s longest serving players Phineas Bamusi.

Speaking after the match, Makepekepe assistant coach Nelson Matongorere said Bunjira impressed on his debut.

“From my assessment, I think he played well on debut. With a bit of luck, he could have scored that chance he blazed over the crossbar,” he told the media.

Junior joined the Green Machine from Northern Region Division One L side Golden Eagles.

In an interview with Zimpapers Sports Hub during his unveiling, Junior said he wants to “fill his father’s footsteps”.

“I have to work non-stop to fill those (Alois Bunjira)’s shoes. I know there are big shoes and I have been told countless times since I was young.

“However, I am confident that I can do it,” said the youngster who was linked with CAPS United’s city rivals Dynamos during the pre-season.

He added: “I was linked with Dynamos for a few weeks and the (CAPS United) president (Farai Jere) came straight to my father and held talks with him.

“I do not think I had much of a say in joining CAPS United; that decision was made for me.

“I’m really excited and a bit nervous; however, I am looking forward to the coming season in the top flight league

“If given a chance to play, I intend to grab it with both hands and prove my worth.”
