CEO Aiden Mhere showered with praise as he leaves Tongaat after 25 years

CHIREDZI – Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe (THZ) Chief Executive Officer Aiden Mhere bade farewell to stakeholders on Friday as he goes into early retirement after serving the sugar producing giant for 25 years.

Stakeholders who attended the function described Mhere as a humble, focused manager, accessible and competent.

They all said that his departure was a big loss to Tongaat.

Chiredzi District Development Coordinator (DDC), Lovemore Chisema hailed Mhere for his work in developing communities in Chiredzi. He said that Chiredzi will need Mhere even after his departure.

“We worked with you well and we will remember your passion for development of communities around you. We will always need and when we do call you please remember us. If you also need us please just let us know,” said Chisema.

Mhere is being replaced by Tendai Masawi.

Venancio Kurauone, Lowveld Business Development Association (LOBDA) applauded Mhere for getting tenders for local businessmen.

“We are grateful for what you did to our local business people including tenders for supplying trucks to Tongaat,”said Kurauone.

Zimbabwe Sugar Development Association (ZSDA) Elisha Tamirepi said Mhere was an easy person to work.

Amias Sibanda, Hippo Central Workers Committee Chairman described Mhere as a humble person who listened to employees’ grievances.

“Mr Mhere had an open door policy and as workers we were free to present our issues to him any time. We hope the incoming MD will emulate Mr Mhere,” said Sibanda.

Chiredzi Central MP, Ropafadzo Makumire said Mhere’s social corporate responsibility was remarkable and cited the company’s swift response to the recent cholera outbreak.

Mhere joined THZ 25 years ago as Commercial Executive Officer at Hippo Valley. He worked in various departments until he became CEO on Dec 1, 2019.
