GoFundMe for severely injured Zim gymnastics starlet Rebecca Conlon

A GoFundMe campaign is being run to raise funds to help cover the medical bills for seriously injured 16-year-old promising gymnast Rebecca Conlon who accidentally “fell and broke her neck at a trampoline park in Harare when she fell through an open net onto a concrete floor” on the 6th of January.

Organised by Shene Dos Santos on behalf of Andrew Crighton, the fundraising campaign has so far seen 313 donors raising over £18,000 out of £25,000 which is required for the bills.

Conlon who possesses great potential in gymnastics has represented the country with great honour since the age of seven when she made it into the Zimbabwe national gymnastics team.

Two years later, at the age of nine, she became National Champion and won gold in KwaZulu Natal in South Africa.

A year later, she was scouted to join South Africa’s gymnastics team under their Olympic coach and at eleven she became the top gymnast in Africa and was then selected to train in Europe in preparation for the Olympics.

Providing an update on Conlon who is fighting to recover to her normal state the GoFundMe organiser, Santos said:

“On behalf of the Conlon Family we want to say a Huge thank you to everyone for the incredible support and generosity that has been shown thus far,” Santos wrote on 12 January.

“Becky (Rebecca Conlon) is in much less pain since yesterday but is fighting and ongoing high temperatures as her left lung is blocked and so is being nebulised and receiving medication through a central line and lots of physio.

“But in normal “Becky” fashion she is determined and wants to be healed by next week for school. She has been able to lift her arms slightly and is trying to move her fingers.

“She has got sensation in her toes if touched and believing for a miracle. Please pray she will not need a surgical scope procedure tonight to clear her lung. Thank you for all your prayers and for believing in our miracle.”
