Lyon centre back Marcelo was ‘sacked for FARTING in the dressing room’

By Dan Burnham | Daily Star |

Former Lyon defender Marcelo reportedly had his contract terminated by the Ligue 1 club for farting in the dressing room and laughing about it.

The 34-year-old Brazilian was demoted to the reserves just two games into this season due to “inappropriate behaviour” following a 3-0 defeat to Angers in which he had scored an own-goal. He was then let go by the club in January – and it’s all because he let rip.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who, via GFFN, report the reason for his demise was he sparked laughter amongst his team-mates after the loss with his post-match farts.

Club legend and then-sporting director Juninho, who has since joined the Brazil set-up, did not take kindly to the unwanted gas. He and manager Peter Bosz subsequently made the decision to drop him from the squad.

Marcelo had been with the club for four years, making 167 appearances for the first team and scoring eight goals. He went on to play 11 matches with the reserves before losing his contract earlier this year.

The centre-back was snapped up by relegation strugglers Bordeaux, who look doomed at the bottom of the table with wins needed in both of their last two games to avoid the drop.

Marcelo’s miserable season looks to be only getting worse, and it was summed up as his new side faced Angers at the weekend. He was hauled off in the second half of a 4-1 defeat.

The only saving grace for him is that he’s not the first footballer to be punished for breaking wind. In 2016, Swede Adam Lindin Ljungkvist was sent off farting in front of the referee in what was deemed “deliberate provocation”.

“I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go,” Ljungkvist told local media after the bizarre incident. “I don’t get it but maybe he thought I farted in my hand and threw the fart at him. But I did not.”
