DeMbare teenage sensation invited for trials by Belgian club KV Mechelen

Premiership giants Dynamos FC’s 19-year-old highly rated speedy winger Bill Antonio is reportedly set to undergo a one month long trial stint in Europe with Belgian 1A Pro League side KV Mechelen.

Mechelen who are currently in the top eight in the Belgian top flight league have shown interest in DeMbare’s teenage sensation.

The Antwerp based who are being led by their head coach Wouter Vrancken invited the Zimbabwean international for trials the whole of next month (April).

This was confirmed in a letter from the club quoted by The Herald newspaper directed to the Belgian Embassy in South Africa seeking permission to process Antonio’s visa.

“We are pleased to confirm to you that Yellow Red KV Mechelen are willing to invite Bill Leeroy Antonio born in Harare (Zimbabwe) on 3 September 2002 to visit the facilities of our club during a trial period with our professional team consisting of several tests, physical, medical etc,” as summarised, reads part of the club’s quoted letter.

“The player will follow the training sessions with the aim of possible recruitment in the future. All this is limited period of maximum 30 days as from April 1, 2022 until 30 April, 2022.

“For this reason we kindly ask you to grant Bill Antonio a visa to travel to Belgium.”

The impressive lad made his debut for Dynamos last year against Yadah FC in the Chibuku Super Cup tournament.

He has continued with his scintillating performance in the ongoing domestic league campaign as he recently netted his first goal in the Dembare colours in their 2-0 win over Bulawayo Chiefs.

Last weekend, he was voted man of the match after providing two assists and being involved in all the three goals the Harare giants scored against Tenax, resulting in a 3-1 victory.

The Prince Edward graduate made his national team debut in November last year when the Warriors’ lost 1-0 to their bitter rivals Bafana Bafana at the FNB Stadium in South Africa.

If he (Bill) impresses during the month long assessment he might become the latest Zimbabwean footballer to ply his trade in Belgium.

This comes after the Warriors captain Knowledge Musona, Aston Villa’s Marvelous Nakamba and Ovidy Karuru all once turned out for Belgian clubs.

The list continues with the trio of the former Bosso players Vusa Nyoni, Honour Gombami and Obadiah Tarumbwa also not forgetting DeMbare legend Moses Chunga who played for Eendracht Aalst FC from 1988 to 1992. Nehanda Radio
