A-Level results out

By Tendai Ruben Mbofana The ZIMSEC Ordinary Level results are out – and already we are hearing of those outrageous numbers of subjects passed by single candidates. This inevitably leads to the usual debate – is it really necessary for one to sit for, say, 20 subjects at Ordinary Level, or as happened recently, 10 at Advanced Level?

Ordinary level results for the November 2023 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) examinations were released on Monday, indicating an overall pass rate of 29.41 percent, up 4.35 percent on that achieved in 2022.

HARARE - Results of the 2023 Grade Seven examinations are out and show that 45.57 percent of the learners who sat for the tests passed, up from 40.09 last year. Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) board chair Professor Eddie Mwenje announced the release of the results on Friday morning, saying they would be open online from 1500 hours while schools could start collecting from their respective regional offices on Monday.

The authenticity of Zimbabwe's education system continues to be under huge threat as exam papers for both junior and tertiary education continue to leak, seemingly exposing relevant authorities for negligence. The latest development has been witnessed at the country's leading university, the University of Zimbabwe which was forced to cancel the Administrative and Law exams for November 2022 which had commenced due to a suspected exam leak last week.
