HIV infection row pits wife versus husband

By Codelia Mondela

A 43 year old man from How Mine near Bulawayo has been dragged to court by his wife for allegedly infecting her with HIV. A court heard that the woman (30) discovered that she was HIV positive after she fell pregnant in August last year.

The man who works at the mine is facing a charge of transmission of HIV. He pleaded not guilty before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Sharon Rosemani.

For the State, Mr Nkathazo Dlodlo alleged that the two are husband and wife. He said sometime in June at Manor Hotel, at corner 8th Avenue Extension and Lobengula Street, the two had consensual sexual intercourse without protection.

“On August 10, last year, the woman who had fallen pregnant went to the clinic for a medical check-up where she was tested for HIV and was found to be positive,” Mr Dlodlo said. The Chronicle
