Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has reportedly said that he will not allow “dirty money” to fund his ruling Zanu-PF party.
According to The Sunday Mail newspaper, Mugabe said his party’s activities and structures will not be funded by corrupt means.
The report said that the veteran leader had since ordered that “any ill-gotten resources that found their way into the ruling party’s coffers must be returned”.
This came as Zanu-PF was reportedly investigating recent claims by Higher and Tertiary Education Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo that he diverted money from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) to the party, the report said.
Reports indicated that Moyo and his deputy Godfrey Gandawa allegedly embezzled a combined amount of $400 000 from the taxpayer funded (Zimdef).
Mugabe last month said that he won’t be protecting any government officials accused of corruption, adding, however, that those accused of graft should be given a chance to answer for their crimes in a court of law. News24.com
