Job seekers warned about fake prison service recruitment

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has warned members of the public of individuals masquerading as its recruitment officers with the intention of duping job-seekers into believing that they can facilitate employment for them.

In a statement today, ZPCS acting public relations officer Superintendent Priscilla Mthembo said was information circulating on social media purporting that they were going to conduct a recruitment exercise at Ntabazinduna Prisons Training School from September 14 to 17.

“ZPCS would like to put it on record that no such recruitment exercise is taking place at Ntabazinduna Prisons Training School. In the event of a recruitment exercise being conducted, the organisation advertises through the mainstream media such as newspapers, television and radio and not social media.

“Meanwhile, the ZPCS would like to warn members of the public to be cautious of some individuals who might masquerade as ZPCS recruitment officers with the intention of fleecing them of their money,” she said.

Supt Mthembo urged members of the public to contact ZPCS public relations office on (04) 762724 or staff officer human resources on (04) 777385 for any information pertaining to employment opportunities or prospects within the service.

Last month, four people masquerading as policemen were arrested after they allegedly duped several job-seekers into believing that they could facilitate their recruitment into the force and charging them various amounts of money in Matabeleland South and Mashonaland West provinces.

The four – Furthermore Ndeketera (31), Daison Maoko (33), Maxwell Masikati (19) and Eddington Chinyama (19) – were arrested after they told applicants to deposit various amounts of money into their Ecocash accounts.

Investigations revealed that four applicants were prejudiced of a total of $450. Two of the suspects were masquerading as Inspector Peter Gwaze and Chief Inspector Marowa.
