CAPS United will be without their leading scorer Dominic Chungwa who is suspended for Sunday’s trip to Barbourfields Stadium to face Bulawayo City.

Chungwa picked up three yellows cards in the matches against Dynamos, ZPC Kariba and Hwange.

The forward’s suspension will be a big blow for coach Lloyd Chitembwe as he tries to maintain Makepekepe’s title challenge.

Chitembwe’s side have failed to win in their last two matches drawing with FC Platinum and Hwange.

United remain in second place on the log with 37 points while FC Platinum are on 39 points.

Makepekepe’s plight has been made worse by the club’s dire financial situation which almost resulted in the team failing to travel to the Colliery to face Hwange last weekend.

CAPS players had refused to make the trip as they are owed salaries and winning bonuses.

On Tuesday, Makepekepe board chairman Lewis Uriri told the Daily News they will soldier on in their pursuit to win their first title since in 2005.

“We have relied largely on shareholder funding but then also given the difficult environment that we are operating in, there have been delays in the payment of players’ salaries,” Uriri said.

“That’s to the extent that we owe one month salary but knowing that it’s coming from an individual’s pocket with other interests outside football, I think we have acquitted ourselves very well.

“There are people that have got corporate sponsors that are still paying January salaries but no one is worried about them and no one is talking about them but when it’s CAPS United, it becomes an issue.

“People want to talk about us when we only owe one month’s salary and two games outstanding bonuses.”

Meanwhile, Bulawayo City will also be without forward Emmanuel Mandiranga for CAPS’ visit as he is also suspended.

Border Strikers centre back Ephraim Mwinga is also suspended for the strugglers’ home game against Ngezi Platinum Stars. Daily News
