Margaret Dongo’s son dies

Margaret Dongo, a firebrand politician famed for calling Zanu PF men “(Robert) Mugabe’s wives” has suffered a tragedy following the death of her younger son, Elton, in an accident.

A relative who declined to be named confirmed the incident, saying Elton overturned in a scotch cart at Dongo’s farm in Mhondoro yesterday.

Dongo has in recent years spent most of her time at the farm.

He was taken to Parirenyatwa hospital in Harare where the relative said he passed on this morning.

Elton was in his 20s and married with two children.

Mourners are gathered at the Dongo family home in Ridgeview, Harare.

Dongo is now the chairperson of the Zimbabwe People First party women’s wing.

The party is led by her liberation war colleague, Joice Mujuru.

Dongo, a former Zanu (PF) member, has had colourful political history, being the first woman to form a party in 1998 after breaking away from Zanu PF which she accused electoral fraud.
