Magaya funding Peter Moyo… singer says “we love the same things”

Peter Moyo’s association with Prophet Walter Magaya has paid off.

Revelations are that Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries leader Magaya is providing not only spiritual but also financial assistance to the Utakataka Express frontman.

Peter, affectionately known to many as Young Igwe, recently joined a growing list of musicians that include sungura king Alick Macheso, Nicholas Zacharia, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, dendera musicians Suluman and Allan Chimbetu, Zim dancehall artistes Tocky Vibes and Maffcat among others, that have either performed at or attend PHD ministries services.

Efforts to get a comment though from the PHD public relations team were fruitless at the time of writing.

Young Igwe appears to have successfully won a special place in Prophet Magaya’s heart.

Information reaching this publication is that Magaya pledged to secure a new public address system for the sungura musician who is sailing through turbulent waters following disturbances in the outfit that have claimed the scalps of three band members.

Moreover, Moyo is getting financial and moral support from the preacher in the shooting of his new video album set for release next month.

Some also suggest the musician gets amply rewarded each time he trains and features in PHD football fixtures. This is in addition to a number of other unspecified benefits that the Kwekwe-based musician is getting from the ministry.

In an interview last week, Moyo said he had a solid relationship with Magaya, something that had opened a new chapter in the musician’s life.

“The relationship between myself and Magaya is growing from strength to strength with each passing day because we basically love the same things,” said Peter. “… the prophet promised to help me but, of course, I cannot ask him what exactly he intends to assist with.

“I do not want to dwell on specifics but (Magaya) has already done a lot for me including putting his weight on my new video album project. Basically our relationship is now at a point that he can do anything for me.”

He went on, “When I visit his office we play snooker, and also the football training ground is by his offices so he encourages me to join the team’s practice session each time since he also does the same.

I only play soccer when he wants me to, like today (Tuesday last week). He had invited me to join him at the training session since he was also part of it but I failed to attend because of the video shooting.”

And the videos, he added, would bring a fresh perspective of his work.

“I’m taking my time but the video album will be released in June so that people can get to enjoy the videos in the comfort of their homes over winter. I’m trying to bring back the glitter of smartness that was brought into play by my father (Tongai Moyo).

Equally, I’m using different producers. I want every producer to do his song so as to avoid monotony,” said Moyo.

After completing the video album, Moyo hinted that would be immediately back in the studio for his third album.

The project will feature every other Utakataka Express member excluding lead guitarist Willard Loti who has since left to concentrate on his solo project that is not congruent with Utakataka Express plans.

Also missing in action will be another guitarist Mathew Perego and drummer Prince Kapatsa who were fired for misconduct.

“Jawi (Evidence ‘Baba Gari’ Tarabuka) and Savious (Karikodzi) did not leave along with Willo despite the green light which, however, is not a problem. I pardoned them because they had told me initially of their plans to help Willo with his new project. But I fired Perego and Prince because they participated without my blessings,” said Young Igwe.
