‘Ncube running MDC like a tuck shop’

By Jeffrey Muvundusi

BULAWAYO – Former acting secretary-general of the Welshman Ncube-led MDC Moses Mzila-Ndlovu has angrily scoffed at his expulsion, accusing the party president of running the fringe opposition party like a tuck shop.

The former National Healing minister was sacked on Saturday after the MDC National Standing Committee, chaired by Ncube, found him guilty of “failing to competently, efficiently and effectively conduct party affairs and generally failed to measure up to the demands of his office which has included complete dereliction of duty”.

In an interview with the Daily News yesterday, Mzila-Ndlovu said: “This is one hallmark of a dictatorial style of administration. Dictators don’t want consensus, they just want their views endorsed. We have lily-livered members of the Standing Committee being held at ransom by an individual who is actually intellectually intimidating to them.”

MDC spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi angrily poured scorn on Mzila-Ndlovu.

“Mzila is an ungrateful secessionist fool that is mentally barren to read and understand the duties of the secretary-general,” he said.

“He is a filthy pathological liar without any trace of shame. Moses Mzila-Ndlovu is a divisive and an unrepentant fool that failed to perform his duties we threw into the bin after realising that he was too incompetent and lazy to lead the party’s secretariat.”

Mzila-Ndlovu said his relationship with Ncube had irretrievably broken down to an extent that they had gone for over a year without any formal communication between them.

He railed against accusations of incompetence levelled against him.

“Even if the relationship had broken down that far, there was no reason for them (party) to go to the press and lie about the incompetence and ineffectiveness of a person which in fact I read that as an insult on me,” he said.

“The standing committee of the MDC has an extraordinarily weird conception of the word competence and effectiveness because when you talk of effectiveness you should be able to put someone on the performance scale to say this is how you failed, you failed to do A, B, C.

“I believe that my political credentials are known to the public and more so to the MDC membership and people of the opposition even the ruling party, Zanu PF will testify to my credentials.

“The persecutions that I have gone through as a result of being outspoken over issues that I feel are of concern to this nation, particularly issues around nation building, good governance, justice, truth and reconciliation and the economy.”

Mzila-Ndlovu said their differences with Ncube saw him being left out in all communication with regards the operations of the party after he took over the powerful position from former secretary-general Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga.

He described his expulsion as a ploy by Ncube to eliminate all those viewed as a threat to his position, adding that he also harboured ambitions of being a president. Daily News
