Shephered Kapita was slapped with a three-year jail term yesterday when he appeared before Harare magistrate Bianca Makwande.

She suspended one year of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.

Makwande considered that Kapita was a youthful offender.

The court heard that on January 3, Privillege Musekiwa was approached by Kapita who hired him, saying he wanted to see his girlfriend in the Avenues area.

When they arrived at the flat, Kapita disembarked and told Musekiwa to wait for him while he went upstairs.

He returned after a short while and ordered the taxi driver to walk to Fife Avenue Shops to buy food so that he could get change to pay for his fare.

Kapita gave Musekiwa $10 and told him to go and buy him a drink and get his $3 fare.

Musekiwa left Kapita in the vehicle and went into a supermarket.

When he returned, his vehicle was gone.

He subsequently filed a police report and Kapita was later traced and arrested. Daily News
