Zanu PF infighting driven by dwindling looting base

By Elijah Mangwengwende

The voluptuous appetite for opulence by the Zanu PF leadership is clearing ground for anarchy and despondency.

As the povo we are drooling and salivating, watching several leaders of the sunset revolutionary party feasting and wining on lobsters, champagne, pangolin meat, beluga caviar coffee etc, as they compete to splash formula one powered luxurious cars to avoid potholes, while we the majority are finding it hard to put food on the table.

What pains more is that they are not even ashamed kudya vachipfachura while we remain spectators. But for how long? That is the question.

The last Supper

Our elders once said when you hear the drum making too much noise it means it’s about burst. Last kicks of a dying horse. The Zimbabwean populace must be asking themselves, why so much infighting when signs are clear that ZANU PF is dying and reached a point of no return. ZANU PF looking to be hanging over the precipice, we just need to cut the rope.

Like many others I am in doubt that the infighting is driven by desire to rescue the country from doldrums but it is due to scarcity of resources as the economy is in freefall and they are trying to maintain their luxurious lifestyles against all odds, unfortunately as Tsvangirai always says, you can’t rig the economy, Welcome Comrades to reality.

Failure to loot now will be catastrophic to many comrades in the near distant future.

Looting base

As the economy collapses, it means companies are closing, resulting in massive job losses, farms are now in a sorry state and are hubs for weekend retreats, braaing the remaining heifers and bulls. It doesn’t need economics knowledge to know that in a collapsed economy the tax collection base shrinks and the government coffers dry up as a result.

There is no rocket science here.

Unfortunately our chefs don’t have any means or know how to make extra income other than a well-crafted means of spending taxes collected from the poor.

If you wonder why they are all stampeding to acquire degrees by hook and crook, they finally realise that soon they will be on job hunting adventures, I can’t wait to interview some of them when a new era arrives in Zimbabwe soon.

Destitution unavoidable

It’s a dog eat dog situation, they always boast that it’s cold outside ZANU PF, true it’s cold indeed. Why is it every time someone is kicked outside ZANU PF, they fall under economic hardships. Court messengers suddenly become busy attaching their properties.

Lenders scramble for the few remaining properties. Without mentioning names for fear of victimisation, ex ZANU PF officials are grappled and saddled with debts of unprecedented levels.

But for the sake of brevity, somewhere in Rusape, a former “chef” is failing to pay for his house of 35 years soon after a vote of no confidence.

In the banking sector those who fell out of favour with the guvnor are being hunted like hyenas asked to settle unexplained debts. ‘Mugabe must go’ advocate from Masvingo was at one point reported to be scrounging for food. A certain professor had to re-join the revolutionary party after he caught flu outside the inner circles and many more others.

Votes of No Confidence mantra

Now all Gammatox linked cadres are in the cold, it means they can’t claim a share of the remaining cake. Its only $4 billion left.

So mathematically the fewer they are the more loot they get hence relentless infighting from Zambezi to Limpopo. G-40 reportedly led by political commissar, mastered the art of enforcing vote of no confidence to anyone who threatens their base.

Just like a leopard, they accuse their fellow comrades of smelling like goats before devouring them.

Reasons for looting

We appreciate liberation war efforts but it’s no excuse for looting. We appreciate the education received soon after independence but it’s no excuse for looting.

We do appreciate the efforts trying to “share” the land but it’s no excuse for looting. Indigenisation is a noble idea in every nation but it’s no excuse for looting, Unity accord was a great thing to save lives of but it’s no excuse for looting.

Being elected into office is a life time meal ticket for our liberators, our suffering doesn’t concern them, and it’s their right to enjoy what they fought for, you question them you get bashed. Let them enjoy for tomorrow there will be no more left for them and we the downtrodden might be in charge.

Government only broke for the poor

Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa said the government is broke, fine but why is it only broke for the poor while the chefs are travelling first class all over the world. Why broke for the poor when their children are enjoying tax payer’s money, why broke for the poor when them chefs go across the seas for medical attention using taxes.

Hope Chinamasa is brave enough to explain why he is saying the bowl of meat is empty, only soup is left but why he and his fellow comrades are chewing and soup dripping down their lips and chins. Mugapu hanzi hamuchina nyama asi miromo yavo yakanunira.
