HARARE – Flamboyant businessman Philip Chiyangwa has expressed an interest in running for the presidency of the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa).

Chiyangwa claims several people have approached him following the resignation of the bungling Cuthbert Dube, who was effectively booted out by his own board on Saturday. Elections to fill the hot seat have been set for December 5.

“You don’t need to plunge into things without calculating. At the moment, I’m consulting across the board. Yes, I have been approached by quite a number of people, but I need to consult wide and far,” Chiyangwa is quoted saying.

There is already speculation veteran journalist Charles Mabika, Premier Soccer League chairman Twine Phiri, Dube’s vice-president Omega Sibanda, Trevor David Juul, who lost to Dube in the last election could all stand in the election.

Dube resigned from his post on Friday night ahead of Saturday’s Extraordinary General Meeting which was expected to boot him out.

A massive 51 councillors voted in favour of a motion to boot out the highly unpopular Dube, who had on Friday indicated that he intended to leave office on December 5.
