PICTURES: Zimfest 2015 Highlights
LONDON – The annual Zimbabwe Festival (Zimfest) took place on Saturday in London and featured musical performances by afro-pop sensation Chashe, Kazz a.k.a Mr Boomslang (Bkay n Kazz) and headline act Farai and the Forest Dawn.
Unlike previous events held in open spaces this years event was indoors at the Studio Spaces, a purpose built venue in the heart of London that features three arenas, a live music stage, a Dj arena, an open mic session, and a chill out area.
One of the organisers Hilton Mendelsohn once famously said; “Zimfest started life as a massive Zimbabwean piss-up party to raise funds for the community back home, as well as a ‘therapy gig’ to drown a few sorrows as at the time the majority of attendees were forced to leave Zimbabwe for political or economic reasons.”
Despite the name ‘Zimfest’ the event has also tended to attract people from all over Southern Africa.
